New Graphics Demonstrate Our Program's SHORT- and LONG-term Impact

Our data analysis allows us to capture snapshots of how program participants become more confident and effective self-advocates and problem-solvers immediately after going through our course. We are sharing two new graphics that illustrate this impact.

The first new graphic summarizes the impact of our program on the 159 individuals who took our course in 2022. Highlights include:

  • a decisive increase in participants’ confidence in using negotiation strategies to work through daily challenges in their lives;

  • a change in how participants approach conflict, with an increase in collaboration and a decrease in competitiveness, avoidance, and accommodation;

  • participants’ frequent experiences in using negotiation strategies such as listening actively, focusing on interests, and assessing alternatives to reach positive outcomes in conflict situations involving family, employment, caseworkers, and more.

The second new graphic summarizes the findings from our long-term surveys, in which we reach out to participants six or more months after they have completed our program to explore what they remember and how they are using negotiation skills in their lives. Our recent analysis finds that participants:

  • remember specific negotiation concepts, including planning strategically, considering all parties’ perspectives, being open minded, and listening

  • continue to use these strategies intentionally and confidently to resolve conflicts in their personal relationships and workplaces and in situations involving housing, health, financial matters, and more.
