Partner Spotlight: The Kellogg Dispute Resolution Center at Northwestern’s Kellogg School

Earlier this year, Negotiation Works partnered with the Kellogg Dispute Resolution Center at Northwestern’s Kellogg School to provide several of our proprietary role plays for use by negotiation educators through a licensing agreement. This agreement allows us to share our customized curriculum with organizations outside the D.C. area, specifically those focused on training students who are interested in working in social justice or social impact roles after college or graduate school. The role plays we’ve licensed include:

  • The Birthday Celebration, where a separated mother and father discuss arrangements for their child's birthday weekend, which each parent wants to spend with the child.

  • A Child Visitation Dispute, where Mom and Grandma discuss issues related to visitation of the children who have been living with Grandma since Mom's arrest and drug treatment program.

  • Difficult Conversations Vignettes, which is is a series of three role plays (family obligations, loaning money to a family member, and asking for a raise) in which students must think through each side's interests.

  • The Security Deposit Return, in which the tenant and the landlord discuss the withholding of the security deposit due to damage.

Each of these scenarios is focused on a specific aspect of negotiation, and can be incorporated into the existing curriculum offered by schools and training programs. This licensing agreement is an exciting new opportunity for Negotiation Works to take our unique curriculum to a much wider audience.
