Kia Terry grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. After leaving high school, she attended nursing school. Kia works as a certified nursing assistant and as an armed security guard. Although she dropped out of high school at an early age, she pursued and obtained her diploma through adult continuing education. Currently, she is continuing her studies at NOVA in the field of criminal justice. As a young mother, Kia joined the National Head Start Policy Council to help improve resources available to the children in her community. Kia took training at the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) through which she met delegates at the state legislature and once again advocated on behalf of children. She is on the Alexandria Redevelopment Board and Housing Association (ARHA) to ensure that residents in her community have a voice in how funds are spent. Kia took Negotiation Works training as part of the Together We Bake training program over the Winter of 2021. As a Negotiation Works Ambassador, she plans to use her training to further her efforts in the community. A mother of three, Kia continues her advocacy efforts and uses her negotiation skills to be a more effective advocate for herself, her children, and others in the community.
